The Havana Brown Cat is an exceptionally beautiful and rare breed. These cats originated in Siam- now Thailand, and were then brought to England in the 1800’s. Shortly thereafter the Havana Brown was brought to the United States, and then was cross-bred with several different breeds; Siamese, Burmese, Russian Blue, and the Black Domestic Shorthair.

The Havana Shorthair is a very striking, elegant, graceful cat. Their color is a deep mahogany brown. Their head is longer than wide, with a broad nose and beautiful, expressive green eyes. This breed is the only one that requires a specific whisker color, which is brown.

The Havana Brown is generally very healthy and suffer from very few health issues, though some lines can develop sinus problems. Another plus to this breed is that they require very little grooming; twice a week combing is sufficient.

The Havana Browns make great companions. They are very curious, sweet, and playful. Like the Siamese, they can be somewhat demanding, as they are people-oriented and require human attention.  The Havana Brown is one of the top ten breeds recommended for children. If you are looking for an ideal family pet, the Havana Brown is a great choice.
